Faculty of Engineering member Assoc. Prof. Özge Şensoy and Faculty of Medicine member Assoc. Prof. Nihal Karakaş from İstanbul Medipol University were awarded for prestigious “Prof. Dr. Altan Günalp Award” by the Turkish Society for Medical Biology and Genetics (Tıbbi Biyoloji ve Genetik Derneği).

Istanbul Medipol University proudly announces the bestowment of the esteemed “Prof. Dr. Altan Günalp Award” upon two distinguished faculty members, Assoc. Prof. Nihal Karakaş (International School of Medicine) and Assoc. Prof. Özge Şensoy (School of Engineering and Natural Sciences). The award is given to original, groundbreaking, guiding future research, new and transferable to practice studies, all of which are conducted in Turkey within the scope of the 18th. National Medical Biology and Genetics Congress.

The study titled “Inhibition of Mutant RAS- RAF interaction by mimicking structural and dynamic properties of phosphorylated RAS” was presented by Assoc. Prof. Nihal Karakaş at the “18th Medical Biology and Genetics Congress” held between 26-29 October 2023 in Ankara and received the second prize of Prof. Dr. Altan Günalp. This pioneering research was supported by TÜSEB and heretofore featured in the esteemed journal eLife (Q1 ve impact factor of 8.7). The research study not only earned them the coveted Prof. Dr. Altan Günalp Award but also served as the thesis work of two dedicated graduate students Metehan İlter and Ramazan Kaşmer. The research team aims to further study the findings for several cancers following a personalized medicine perspective which may then lead to clinical applications.
